All about us at
Amanu Media

We started from the very essence of the spoken word, and the frustration that comes when someone can't hear it.

AMANU MEDIA is a creative writing agency with a difference - we take what has already been said and turn it into a beautiful version that can be read.

Whether it's for generating more traffic to video-based, or improving accessibility to recorded media, we are experts in developing new and engaging content from existing work that really speaks to people - and can be found with a simple search.

We focus wholeheartedly on the human element of written language. There's nuance, poetry and undertone in the way a person devises articles, books and blog posts that just can't be replicated by a machine.

With this unique edge, we provide a premium writing service to the most discerning of clients who appreciate the value that 'hand-written' content repurposing can bring to a business.

Once Upon A Time...

Our founder, Heather McLeod, started her career as an author, poet and ultimately a communications executive and web developer when the corporate world came calling and bills had to be paid. It was on the daily commute that she grew increasingly frustrated with the trend of video-based media across the most popular platforms. Not because the content was bad ... far from it! The stuff that was being produced was incredible and utilised some of the highest resolution tech she'd seen outside Hollywood. The problem was that she didn't want her fellow commuters to see and hear what she was interested in (mainly linguistic history buffs going on about the unique etymology of Euskera while surrounded by fierce Castillian influences through the Middle Ages ... or some such geekery).

Now I know what you're thinking - just get some headphones!

But she got to thinking one AirPod-less morning on the train to the office. This wasn't a unique problem. There are so many people who either cannot listen to this content - because of hearing disabilities, for instance - or simply don't want to. Just because people CAN listen to content doesn't mean they would choose it over reading every time. And since it's often the call for what people want that leads to solutions, she began looking into ways to solve this for herself and others.

Transcriptions were an obvious answer, but were so boring in their format that it just didn't keep her attention.

Closed captions on the videos were another one, but it didn't remove the problem of others being able to watch over her shoulder. (Oh, the familiar perceived judgemental eye of her peers!)

Not only that, AI-generated captions were often fraught with errors that broke the flow of speech so often that it was no longer enjoyable. Perhaps she could find a way to provide captions written by humans. Quick typing humans...

Upon arriving at her day job in web development and communications, she realised a way to kill two birds with one stone.

Unlike transcripts, closed captions aren't optimised for web searches and leave video and audio content vulnerable to getting lost on the internet unless tagged thoroughly and carefully with metadata. And since transcripts were the most boring thing in the world, she went back to basics and looked at the possibility of incorporating links to long-form writing to accompany - not replace - videos and podcasts.

She realised that it didn't have to be one or the other, and the trend was clear that Reels, Shorts and Clips were here to stay. Content Creators worked so hard to curate beautifully engaging and entertaining videos and, with some outside help and very little additional effort, could double sources of leads by 200% and appeal to a whole new audience, while having every word (and more!) in a search-optimised format to drive even more traffic to their content.

And loners like Heather get to read quietly on the train. It's a win-win!
